Teacher Residency Grant is Received to Support The Village Initiative in Partnership with Cal State Dominguez Hills and LAUSD

洛杉矶, CA(四月二十四日),2024) — The Watts of Power’s Teacher Residency Program (The Village Initiative), in partnership with California State University, Dominguez Hills and Los Angeles Unified 学校 District, is pleased to announce a grant obtained by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This grant will support the Teacher Residency Initiative offering selected candidates a stipend of $35,000 while completing a teacher credential program and a one-year residency, with an assigned mentor teacher (Fall 2024-Spring 2025), have access to a therapist, a life coach and affordable housing for the duration of their residency. In exchange, candidates must commit to teaching in LAUSD for a minimum of four years.

The grant provides an opportunity for Los Angeles Unified 学校 District and Cal State University Dominguez Hills to deepen their partnership, focusing on the recruitment and retention of Black male teachers.

This grant represents a significant step forward in the effort to create a more diverse and representative teaching workforce in Los Angeles. By supporting initiatives like the Village Initiative, it will ensure that all students have access to educators who reflect the diversity of their communities.

Both LAUSD and 基督教社会联盟DH are committed to closing opportunity gaps through personalized learning and anti-discriminatory instructional practices. 基督教社会联盟DH’s 教育学院 is dedicated to challenging and dismantling power and privilege in education.

This summer the organization will kick off the residency with a week long mentor teacher training in June with selected mentor teachers who will be matched with our residents for Fall 2024-2025. These efforts are being led by both Didi Watts as well as Dr. Kirk Rogers, COE faculty member and Co-Chair for the Toros Teach LA teaching program.

The Village Initiative program provides Black male teaching fellows with a stipend, 专业支持, peer and community connections, and training in the Components of Care, as well as affordable housing within the communities they serve.
